Tommaso Tonello

Tommaso Tonello, MRes (2024-25) in History and Philosophy of Science, MSc (2024-2025) in Economic Policy at Utrecht University, MA (2024-2025) in International Relations at Ca’Foscari University of Venice, is currently Research Assistant in the Solaris EU project, focusing on challenges and opportunities of deepfakes – with a particular focus on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) – for European citizens.

During his time at Cycling Cities, Tommaso undertook archival and photographical research. This contributed to the realisation of Cycling Cities’ pilot project in Tamale, Ghana, which took the form of an interactive laboratory with authors from Cycling Cities: The African Experience’s chapter, scholars, policy-makers and several stakeholders looking into cycling policies. At the same time, he contributed to the editing of the book Cycling Cities: The Lisbon Experience. The work at Cycling Cities inspired him to pursue new opportunities in the field of academic publishing. He recently joined the Journal for the History of Knowledge (JHoK) as Assistant Managing Editor.

Prior to the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, Tommaso used to be a classical musician (MFA in Music Disciplines, 2020) and a freelance Historically Informed Practise (HIP) performer, travelling through Europe to play with orchestras such as Divino Sospiro and Accademia dell’Annunciata. In his free time, he tries to put his music career back on track.
