Imran Hasan Ahmed

Imran Hasan Ahmed is a PhD researcher (2025–2029) at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), specializing in cycling and urban mobility. His research focuses on promoting cycling as a sustainable mode of transport in oil-rich Middle Eastern countries, where car ownership is closely tied to social status. Drawing on lessons from cycling initiatives in cities like Tehran, Isfahan, and Doha, his work aims to enhance urban health and sustainability by addressing the challenges of implementing cycling projects in these contexts.

Born and raised in Suleimani City in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Imran earned his degree in Civil Engineering from Salahaddin University – Erbil, where he supervised housing and road infrastructure projects. After moving to the Netherlands in 2008, he completed a master’s degree in Urban Planning at Greenwich University.

Imran has extensive professional experience in mobility planning, having worked as a consultant at Goudappel, one of the Netherlands’ oldest mobility firms, and currently at Move Mobility Company, focusing on the Middle East market. His academic and professional journey reflects his commitment to fostering sustainable urban development through innovative mobility solutions.
